Have you ever been frustrated or confused by why your dog is behaving in a certain way and seek to better understand him? Do you wonder why your dog only listens to you some of the time or seems at times to be stubborn? Does your dog seem incapable of learning certain things or does he ignore you when given commands? Are you having a difficult time managing your out-of-control dog when out in public? This workshop will help to clarify the principal differences between the way humans and dogs think, and will increase your responsiveness to your dog's emotional and training needs.

This workshop will focus on many aspects of training- and behavior-shaping in dogs. Whether you are a frustrated dog owner, a veterinarian, a canine-massage therapist, a dog walker at a local shelter or are simply interested in enhancing the relationship with your beloved best friend, you will come away from this workshop with enlightenment, knowledge and understanding.

The general philosophy behind Joni's training is to teach people to be thinking trainers. Rather than following a training program like a recipe, Joni works to teach her human students how to connect to what the dog is needing at the current moment in order to communicate ideas to the dog in a way that he/she will understand. This will not only aid you in training, but will also establish healthy pack leadership and develop trust. Joni believes that trust and respect are the foundation of all healthy relationships.

Participants are encouraged to bring their dogs to the workshop for demonstrations, provided the dogs are crate-trained. Dogs will be worked with one at a time, requiring that all other dogs be crated or under control during the remainder of the workshop. Joni will touch on many aspects of dog training and behavior. Interactive question/answer sessions will accompany demonstrations. Participants will be encouraged to take part in demonstrations. Any subjects that relate to training and behavior-shaping can be addressed at participants' requests during the workshop.
The guest lecture workshops will be a valuable asset to your animal-massage work and are applicable to your ITT Inc. 150-Hour Small- or Large-Animal Certificate.
